Last weekend in Govardhan was magic as usual. The older class has selected a theme to start working on: illustrating a story with original compositions. The younger class created a story board for their book about Spring in India and posed for photos to use as references for creating original art. Holi is a festival that falls in the spring season, so they came prepared with pichikari (squirt guns) and fragrant colored powder–because who could pose for holi pictures without at least a handful of color?? It was such a fun afternoon on the rooftop of Priya Drawing Center! They went all out — running, playing, getting everyone covered with colors.

I shot about sixty photos of them playing holi. Next weekend I will give them the prints and they will begin to create original art from them.
Here they demonstrate for me how holi can get rough. . .
Here Vaisnavi and Payal insisted on gently coloring eachother’s cheeks with yellow and pink powder in this shot. Imagine various colored dyes squirting out of those guns!
Come to Braj for Holi! You haven’t fully experienced Holi until you have experienced it in Braj–Mathura, Varsana, Gokul, etc. After all, this is the land where the festival has its roots.
No one can escape a little holi:)
